Introducing GUStakes! Stake UBQ or xDai on 1 v 1 matches of Gods Unchained!
GUStakes is a new service that allows players of Gods Unchained to stake UBQ, or xDai on 1v1 matches.
What is Gods Unchained?
If you are unfamiliar, Gods Unchained is a free to play digital trading card game that plays similarly to Magic the Gathering or Hearthstone. The main difference being all cards players earn, purchase, and play with are NFT’s on the Ethereum network. As a result, all cards are verifiably scarce, and stats and ownership history are recorded on the Ethereum blockchain. This revolutionary idea introduces the “play to earn” model, where players can earn real money simply by playing the game. The active player base has been steadily growing, along with a vibrant community of streamers, and consumers of all things Gods Unchained.

GUStakes aims to bring players the ability to put their money where their skills are.
Here’s how it works:
1. Find an opponent and their Player ID. (see this guide showing how to find a Player ID)
2.Next, log in to https://gustakes.gg
3. On the Dashboard page, click on “CREATE A STAKE” and enter the following information:
a. Your opponent’s Player ID/Apollo ID
b. The number of tokens you would like to stake (this will be matched by your opponent)
c. The challenge code you and your opponent will use on the Gods Unchained client
d. The time limit for your stake. (Your opponent must accept, and you must complete the match within this time).
4. Click “post” and confirm the transaction prompted by your Sparrow, or Metamask extension.
5. Your stake will be available for your opponent to accept once they log into their GUStakes account. Once your opponent has accepted, and sent their UBQ, you will have the remaining time to matchup on the Gods Unchained client, and complete your match.
6. Once the match time limit has expired, the winning player can return to GUStakes and claim the total amount staked
Winners will be awarded the total stake minus a service fee and transaction fees. The service fee is either 6% for total stakes less than 750 tokens, or 4% for total stakes greater than 750 tokens.
Some Things to Consider
Stakes placed on GUStakes can be cancelled as long as your opponent has not accepted and sent their tokens to the smart contract. If a stake is cancelled, it is deleted from our server, and a “refund” transaction is initiated. The refund transaction sends the tokens staked back to the address it was sent from minus network fees. There are no additional fees for this transaction.
The Gods Unchained client is stable and works well 99% of the time; however, it is still in beta. Although rare, there is the possibility of something happening during matches, such as a network issue or a fatal bug that could affect your game. If this happens, the GUStakes client will be notified that an issue had occurred on the Gods Unchained client. 30 additional minutes will be added to your stake for you and your opponent to finish your matchup. If the match cannot be carried out for any other reason, an admin refund function has been included in the contract, in which funds will be returned to all wallets within a stake, and the stake is terminated. Reach out to an administrator in the GUStakes discord to request this stake cancellation. A refund conducted in this way, will be charged a 2% service fee for processing.
Ubiq and xDai
The surge in gas prices on the Ethereum network has made it quite difficult for smaller dApps to function. Simple transactions between wallets can cost up to a few dollars. Additionally, interacting with smart contracts has become quite costly, with an unpredictable range of network fees. A service like GUStakes requires the ability to conduct micro-transactions, at a reasonable, predictable cost.
To illustrate, interacting with the GUStakes contract consumes an average of around 150,000 gas on the Ethereum main network. Since May 2020, average gas prices have skyrocketed ranging between 60 and 200+ gwei. Sending a $10 stake would result in average transaction fees ranging from 0.009 ETH or $12.36 at 60 gwei, to .03 ETH or $41.21 at 200 gwei.
The unsustainable rise of the cost to use Ethereum has given way to new chains that operate identically to Ethereum, but offer several advantages, the main one being cost.
Ubiq is an enterprise-stable version of Ethereum. Only the most well established and thoroughly tested EVM code is implemented on Ubiq. Additionally, Ubiq’s innovative flux algorithm targets block times of 88 seconds with fluctuating hash rates on the network. This creates a much more stable and predictable environment for developers, businesses, and consumers. xDai is also an EVM based network in which its native coin is a stable coin pegged to 1 USD. xDai was developed to be a stable payments blockchain allowing for very fast and very inexpensive transactions. Anyone who holds DAI can convert to xDai through the xDai Bridge. xDai is one part of a larger ecosystem of truly innovative technologies.
Transacting on both of these chains is cheaper than Ethereum by several orders of magnitude. Not to mention, because both chains are based on the EVM, all valid Ethereum addresses are also valid Ubiq, and xDai addresses. Additionally, tools like Metamask work seamlessly with either network simply by adding a custom network RPC. (See this and this). Alternatively there are browser extensions like Sparrow optimized for Ubiq, or Nifty optimized for xDai.
